Mindful self-compassion

These are practices taken from the programme created by Professor Kristen Neff from the University of Texas and clinical psychologist, Chris Germer. Drawing upon mindfulness, Dharma practices such as Metta (loving kindness for self and others), Compassion Focussed Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, work by neuropsychologist Rick Hanson and more, Neff and Germer put together a wonderful 8-week course that focuses on befriending and reparenting ourselves. Learning to treat ourselves with the same warmth, patience and kindness we treat a friend, we become more likely to take healthy chances in life because we know we will be there for ourselves when we fall. Self-compassion helps us to regulate our emotions from sadness to shame. Below you will find the core practices from the course and a couple of additional practices.
